The last thing you want is for your air conditioner to quit in the middle of July. Yet, you shouldn’t immediately panic if your air conditioner is blowing warm or hot air. The solution may be simpler than you think.
For example, you may need to do nothing more than change the thermostat setting. You never know until you check. If our advice doesn’t work, contact our HVAC contractors in Greenville, Belding, and Livonia, MI.
Here’s a few reasons why your air conditioner may be putting out hot air.
There’s a chance your thermostat is still on the “heat” setting instead of “cool”. If so, you’ve saved yourself a call to one of our HVAC contractors. When the seasons change, it’s easy to forget to change the thermostat. It’s also not uncommon for children to get curious and play around with the thermostat. If changing the setting solves the problem, consider yourself lucky.
Check your thermostat for the fan setting. If the thermostat is set to “on”, the fan will run regardless of when the air conditioner delivers cool air. This is why you may feel warm air coming from your air conditioning vents.
To fix the issue, set the fan to “auto” so that it’ll turn on with the air conditioner. That way, the fan moves only cool air throughout your home. If this doesn’t solve the problem, call our Parker-Arntz HVAC technicians to request air conditioning repair. We’ll take a look at the unit and diagnose the real issue.
When’s the last time you replaced the air filter? If it’s been awhile, the air filter may be too clogged with dirt, dust, and other allergens to allow air to pass through. Once this happens, your air conditioner runs more often to make up for the fact that less air is being delivered. This exerts more wear and tear on the blower and reduces energy efficiency.
Your air conditioning unit does more than blow cold air into your home. It’s also responsible for extracting heat and water vapor from the air. Inside your air conditioner are coils filled with refrigerant. This substance goes back and forth between its liquid and gas states to absorb and release heat.
As the hot humid air passes over these coils, the liquid refrigerant absorbs the heat and turns into a gas. The air conditioner then compresses the air inside the coils so it returns to its liquid state. The extra heat generated by compressing this gas is released outside the home via condenser coils and a second fan.
Our HVAC contractors will make sure your air conditioner coils stay clean. That way, you’re not surprised by an air conditioning repair.
If none of the above fixes helped, call us today. One of our HVAC contractors will come out to your house to find the source of the problem. They’ll then be able to recommend air conditioning repair. We also offer air conditioning service so we can catch issues early. That way, you never have to be without air conditioning when it’s hot outside.
